Cyabra Launches Deepfake Detection

Microsoft Hit by Fake Profile Campaign Over “AI Layoffs”

Cyabra revealed a coordinated disinformation campaign on X surrounding Microsoft’s "AI-driven layoffs", pushed by fake accounts amplifying divisive narratives to damage the company’s reputation.

Between May and August 2025, Cyabra uncovered that 29% of profiles discussing Microsoft’s layoffs were fake. They were part of a coordinated disinformation campaign on X. These accounts pushed narratives claiming Microsoft was replacing American workers with visa holders, funding AI through layoffs, and even promoting AI as emotional support for those laid off.

Using synchronized posting, AI-generated avatars, and emotionally charged language, the fake profiles created the illusion of mass outrage.

Cyabra’s analysis exposed a strategic effort to damage Microsoft’s reputation and erode public trust in both its AI transformation and the company as a whole.
