Identifying both real and fake profiles with discourse surrounding the hashtag, #boycottqatar.

Scanning 23,000 profiles that took part in online discussions in just one week regarding a boycott of Qatar for human rights abuses during the staging of the FIFA World Cup, 10.4% were found to be inauthentic. Some of the fake profiles had names such as ‘Boycott Qatar 2022’. A community of primarily fake accounts was also found, spreading negative content using the hashtag #QatarBoycott.
