How Iran Uses AI-Generated Content to Manufacture the Illusion of American Military Failure

Mar. 29, 2026

Cyabra's investigation uncovers a coordinated narrative warfare campaign that uses AI-generated deepfakes to fabricate American casualties, undermine public support for the war, and generate domestic political pressure.

As the conflict escalated, inauthentic accounts on TikTok and Facebook began flooding the information environment with AI-generated videos depicting mass military funerals, distressed soldiers, and grieving families. The content is entirely fabricated, designed to create the perception that the U.S. is losing the war. Cyabra analyzed 47 inauthentic accounts responsible for over 40 million views of this content.

The campaign is built around three emotionally engineered narratives: large-scale flag-draped coffin processions, soldiers in battlefield distress, and children mourning deployed or fallen fathers. Hundreds of videos appear to originate from just two to three underlying AI prompts, with identical scripts, scenes, and hashtag clusters pointing to centralized content production.

The behavioral patterns are consistent with previously identified Iran-linked operations, including the use of sleeper profiles that built audiences with benign content before pivoting to war propaganda. The goal is not battlefield victory online. It is to erode trust, amplify anti-war sentiment, and constrain U.S. decision-making from within.
