Synthetic media generated or manipulated using artificial intelligence to convincingly imitate the appearance, voice, or actions of a real person or event. Deepfakes can be created for legitimate purposes, such as entertainment or accessibility, but they may also be used to spread misinformation, impersonate individuals, manipulate public perception, or support coordinated influence campaigns.
